Anne Franklin Doran

Anne Franklin Doran, beloved wife and mother, dedicated community church volunteer, and exceptional singer died Friday, December 29, 2017. She was 90 years old.
Anne was born on January 15, 1927 to J. Henry and Patricia Franklin in Jonesboro, AR. She attended Arkansas State University and the College-Conservatory of Music in Cincinnati, OH.
On her way home for Christmas school-break from Cincinnati in December 1946 she met her future husband, H. Glenn Doran when he boarded the same train for Memphis. The train was completely full due to the holiday season and he had driven down from Ohio State University (where he was pursuing an MBA) and boarded late. As fate would have it, the only seat left on the entire train was next to Anne. They talked the whole trip down to Memphis and decided to go out on a date when they returned from Christmas break. On Valentine's Day 1947, H. Glenn drove down to Cincinnati for their first date and he asked her to marry him at the end of the date. She said "yes" and five children and 65 years of marriage later this proved to be a wise decision for them both.
Anne never met a stranger and was a vivacious fun-loving Arkansas gal. She loved to sing and dance (particularly the jitterbug) and was a bridge player as well. She also loved to travel and visited all 50 states.
Anne sang in the Murray First Methodist Church Choir for over 30 years and performed at many weddings and funerals. She served on and participated in many other church committees and activities through the years at both the Murray and Puryear United Methodist Churches. She was a member of the Murray Woman's Club and a Meals on wheels volunteer driver.
Once her children were older she worked for Peoples Bank of Murray for 15 years and was later a member of its Board of Directors.
Anne was preceded in death by her beloved husband, H. Glenn Doran, a sister Mary Mooring and a brother Johnny Franklin, who was killed in combat as a fighter pilot in the South Pacific Theater, WWII.
Survivors include three daughters, Pat Weatherly (James) of Murray, KY, Glenda Sohigian of Pougkeepsie, NY, Mary Atkins (Rick) of Cottage Grove, TN; two sons, Harold G Doran (Kelly) and Frank Doran (Susan) of Murray, KY; eight grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren and three nephews.
Funeral services will be held at the chapel of J.H. Churchill Funeral Home at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, January 3, 2018. Visitation will be at the funeral home on that same date from 11:00 a.m. until the funeral hour. Burial will follow at the Murray City Cemetery. Officiating will be Dr. Rick Dye and Rev. James Stahler.
