Mrs. Ashley Gesler, 41, of Murray, KY, died Tuesday, April 06, 2010 at The Murray Calloway Co. Hospital after an extended illness. Mrs. Gesler was born in Fort Bragg, N.C on January 16, 1969. Mrs. Gesler was employed with Murray Pediatrics as a F.N.P (Family Nurse Practioner) and as an A.R.N.P. (Advanced Registered Nurse Practioner) since 2001. Mrs. Gesler was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Murray; there she was a member of the Insight Sunday School Class. A member of the Sigma Theta Tau sorority. Mrs. Gesler received her BA degree in Physical Anthropology from The University of California, Davis; her BSN degree from Murray State University in 1997, there she was awarded the outstanding senior student of her graduating semester; she was also awarded a scholarship from Vanderbilt University and later earned her MSN degree there. Mrs. Gesler was a graduate of Vacaville High School in Vacaville, CA; there she was the 1987 Basketball Player of the Year for the Monticello Empire League. She also lettered in cross country, swimming, and track. While after High School Mrs. Gesler played basketball at UCLA and later transferred to play basketball at the University of California, Davis; most noted for her fearsome defense and assists, in which she was awarded several honors, as well as being voted team captain her senior year.
Mrs. Gesler is preceded in death by her father, Myles Stevens, and grandfathers Louis E. Hicks and Baxter C. Stephens.
She is survived by her husband, Dave Gesler, three daughters, Eleri Gesler, Gwyneth Gelser, and Eowyn Gesler, one son, Sinjin Gesler all of Murray, her mother, Jeannette Stevens of Vacaville, CA, two sisters, Megan Mierau and husband Darren of Arcata, CA, and Lesley Stevens of Sullivan’s Island, S.C., grandmothers, Marie B. Hicks of Murray and Zelma Stevens of Vacaville, CA, also two nephews survive, Noah and Hudson Mierau of Arcata, CA.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 10, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at The J.H. Churchill Funeral Home, with Rev. Richard Smith and Rev. Brett Miles officiating. Eulogy given by family friend, Mike Shepard. Dr. Faye Austin and Gary Vacca will be providing the music service. Burial to follow in the Murray City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m., Friday, April 9, 2010 at The J.H. Churchill Funeral Home.
