Mrs. Barbara A. Jewell, age 81, of Dry Ridge, Kentucky formerly of Murray, Kentucky died Saturday, August 9, 2014 at the Grant Center Nursing facility in Williamstown, Kentucky after a long battle with Alzheimer's.
Barbara loved God, family, friends, music and flowers. She formerly was a co-owner of The Poppy Shoppe and Shirley's Florist in Murray, Kentucky. Barbara was given the gift of song. She loved to sing and took great joy in singing in worship service. She was involved with the Sweet Adeline's for many years, sang The Messiah with the Detroit 500 Voice and a group from Murray State University, traveled Europe as well and sang for many weddings and funerals locally. Barbara was a member of both The University Church of Christ and Glendale Road (7th & Poplar) Church of Christ. She was a founding member of a startup congregation that established the church of Christ in Grant County Kentucky – The Grant County Church of Christ in Dry Ridge, Kentucky.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Hurley George Roberts and Louise "Dickie" VanDavendor Roberts; as well as her husband, Arthur Carlton Jewell.
Barbara is survived by a sister, Mary Jo James of Murfreesboro, Tennessee. She and Arthur Carlton Jewell had two children, David Jewell and Carol Jewell Bylaska. David and Kim Chilcutt Jewell reside in Gilroy, California. Paul and Carol Bylaska reside in Shippenville Pennsylvania. Four grandchildren: Troy Clayton Yates (Wendy) of Paducah, Kentucky, Stephanie Nichole Shaffer (Daniel) of Tionesta, Pennsylvania, William Paul Bylaska, Jr. (Christie) of Beach Park, Illinois, and John Robert Bylaska of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Twelve great grandchildren: Molly and Madeline Yates, Mariah and Kali Moore, LaurieAnn, Morgan and Katilynn Shaffer, Kiarah White, Noah, Ella, Cody and Owen Bylaska.
Funeral services will be held at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home in Murray Kentucky on Sunday, August 17, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. with John Dale officiating. Burial will follow in the Murray City Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2014 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m.
