Betty Jean Hester

July 6, 1966 — July 25, 2024

Murray

Mrs. Betty Jean Hester, age 58, of Murray, Kentucky passed away on Thursday, July 25, 2024, in Patterson, Louisiana.

Mrs. Hester was born in Calloway County, Kentucky on July 6, 1966.

Jean was a selfless, caring mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She lived her life always taking care of others. Family was the cornerstone of Jean’s short life. She loved her children deeply, always wishing them a “good night and sweet dreams”, but no one or anything would, or could come between her and her grandchildren. From her grandchildren, “Thank you Nan-Nan for your sacrifices, your love, and the wonderful memories with you.” Her kind spirit, generosity, and devotion to her family will be forever cherished.

Jean found joy in almost everything she did. When she put on her bakers hat, you knew you were about to get the best peanut butter fudge in Kentucky.

Some have often wondered why Jean kept a shovel in the back of her car. She would see beautiful flowers on the side of the road, dig them up, and successfully transplant them to her own flower garden. She may or may not have dug up some flowers on a Gatlinburg hillside and took them home. She found joy and solace in her home garden.

As Jean prioritized finding joy in life and sharing it with others, the family asks that you do the same. Go out and do something that brings you real joy and share it with those around you.

She was preceded in death by her husband, David Russell Hester, who passed away on September 4, 2023; her father, Bobby Wayne Thompson; one sister, Barbara King; and by one brother, Christopher Thompson.

Mrs. Hester is survived by her mother, Eula (Kendall) Atteberry of Kirksey, Kentucky; two daughters, Amanda George and husband Justin of Fairchild Air Force Base, Washington and Lisa Ann Hester of Murray, Kentucky; one son, Andrew Hester and wife Lacy of Murray, Kentucky; one sister, Carolyn Singleton of Kirksey, Kentucky; grandchildren, Thalia George, Trinity George, Tyler Earles, Isabella Hester – Earles, Aubrey Clinton, Adley Hester, Ashton Hester, and Aria Buzzel; as well as adopted grandson, Aidan Hester – Earles; also, several nieces and nephews.
