Mrs. Betty Jo Purdom, age 85, of Murray, Kentucky, passed away on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at Spring Creek Nursing Home with her family by her side.

Betty Jo was born on January 8, 1939, in Murray, Kentucky, to the late Margery (Boitnott) Crawford and Nix Crawford. She graduated from Murray High School and continued her education at Murray State University where she was a member of the Tri Sigma Sorority. In 1962, Sanders and Purdom Motors was founded, which later became Purdom Motors under the ownership of Mrs. Betty Jo Purdom and her late husband Wells Purdom, Jr. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, an avid golfer and a member of the Murray Country Club. To those who knew and loved her dearly, she was known as “Dootsie.”

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wells Purdom, Jr, her daughter, Allyson Paige Purdom, brother, Bobby Nix Crawford, and sister-in-law, Martha Crawford.

She survived by her sons, Tripp Purdom (Allyson) and John Nix Purdom (Sherry); four grandchildren, Paige Giles (Ronnie), Chandler Cohoon (Devin), Wells Purdom (Emma), and Meredith Purdom (Fiancé Luke Roth) and five great-grandchildren, Maddox Giles, Cook Giles, Gracen Cohoon, Greer Cohoon, and Molly Catherine Purdom; sister-in-law, Patsy Purdom Miller and brother-in-law, Tim Miller: as well as by several nieces and nephews. 

A memorial graveside service will be held on Sunday, December 15, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at the Murray City Cemetery. John Dale will officiate, and entombment will follow. There will be no public visitation prior to the service.
