Dr. Betty Rose Railey, PhD

Dr. Betty Rose Railey, age 86, of Murray, KY died Tuesday December 26th at Baptist Hospital in Paducah, KY.

Dr. Railey was born on March 2, 1931 in Birmingham AL to the late Francis Murrell Nabors and Dora Naylor Nabors. Dr. Railey retired as a Dance Educator and Professor at California State University in Long Beach, Ca in 1988. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Murray, KY. and Gideon's Purse.

She is survived by the love of her life, husband Jimmy H Railey; son Alan Griffith and wife Debora of Westminster, Ca; step son Jim A. Railey and his wife Liangya of Albuquerque, NM.; sisters Marilyn Dickson of Birmingham, AL and Marjean Simpson of Rome, GA.; six grandchildren Jeffrey, Jillian, Carlos, Danica and Joshua and 4 great grandchildren Serena, Giovanni, Isabella, and Harlow; and numerous Nieces and Nephews. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her two brothers Herschel, Bill; and her three step daughters Paula Pierce, Peggy Tschauner and Raven J. Railey.

During her tenure at Long Beach State she choreographed and directed numerous Dance programs with her students. In collaboration with her colleague Phil Martin she developed the So Dance a Bit dance video series with her specialty and love shown in the Folk-Dance portion of the series. She led the National Dance Association as President for many years and was published in more than a dozen publications.

In retirement she learned and played competitive racquetball. Winning a Gold Medal in the World Senior Olympics at the Masters level. She created and led exercise classes at the local YMCA in San Luis Obispo and the Senior Center in Murray, KY with many still following the program.

Memorial services will be held on Friday, December 29th at 10:00 am at First Baptist Church with Reverend Keith Inman officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the Memorial Services from 9:00 am to 10:00 am.
