Billie Lou Mayes

Mrs. Billie Lou (Gilstrap) Mayes, age 84, of Benton, Kentucky, died on Thursday, November 24, 2022, at Spring Creek Health Care in Murray, Kentucky.

Mrs. Mayes was born in Brookside, Alabama on October 1, 1938, to the late Cleo and Cora Mae Irene (Estes) Gilstrap. Mrs. Mayes retired from the Hostess Brand Bakery Company after 42 years and was a member of the Sinking Spring Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Mayes was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas Mayes; and by one nephew, Vince Gilstrap.

Mrs. Mayes is survived by one sister, Bobbie Sue Gilstrap of Aurora, Kentucky; one brother, A.C. Gilstrap of Detroit, Alabama; one nephew, Joey Gilstrap and wife Beth; two great nephews, Blake and Brian Gilstrap; one great – great nephew, Coley Gilstrap; four great-great nieces, Bradie, Brilyn, Bella, and Callie Gilstrap; sister-in-law, JoAnn Donat of Benton, Kentucky; as well as her extended family, Linda Kocjancich, Sandra Kassil, Robert Donat, and Barbara Coleman.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, November 27, 2022, at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home and Cremation Services at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Sammy Cunningham officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the funeral service on Sunday, November 27, 2022, at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home and Cremation Services from 12:00 p.m. – until the service hour.
