Billy Bob White

December 25, 1939 — April 12, 2020

Mr. Billy "Bob" White, husband of Wylene Jones White, age 80, of Gilbertsville, Kentucky, died on Sunday, April 12, 2020, at the Edinburg Regional Medical Center in Edinburg, Texas.
Mr. White was born in Jonesboro, Arkansas on December 25, 1939, to the late Joe Bell White and Ethyl Irene (Kappen) White. Mr. White made his career as a History Professor Emeritus at Southeast Missouri State University. Mr. White was a graduate from Arkansas State University earning his BA, and later receiving his MA from the University of Northern Colorado and post- graduate work at the University of Colorado. He was associated with many different organizations; including the Gideons, Rotary International, served as the Director of the Center for Regional History at SEMO for many years, served on the Missouri State Historic Preservation Board, and was a Fulbright Scholar to Israel. Mr. White was a member of the Mount Carmel United Methodist Church in Benton, Kentucky.
Mr. White is survived by his wife, Wylene Jones White of Gilbertsville, Kentucky, whom he married on April 7, 1963, at the First Christian Church in Murray, Kentucky; one daughter, Zonnya White Carpenter and husband Will of Philpot, Kentucky, one son, R. Bryan White and wife Silvana of Pearland, Texas, one brother, Joe Charles White and wife Barbara of DeSoto, Missouri, one brother-in-law, E. Ottis Jones and wife Susan of Brentwood, Tennessee; seven grandchildren, Valentina White, Victoria Silva, Rachel Carpenter, Hannah Carpenter, Danielle Carpenter, W. Evan Carpenter, and Alexander Carpenter; as well as, four special nieces and nephews and their families, Matthew Jones , Steve White, Ashley Kebrdle, and Kelli Rieck.

A private family graveside service will be held at this time due to the coronavirus and regulations. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
