Mr. William "Billy" Murdock, age 90 of the Lynn Grove Community of Murray, Kentucky, died July 15, 2016 at his home.
He was born July 27, 1925 in Graves County, Kentucky to the late Philip and Beauton Mayfield Murdock. In addition to his parents he is also preceded in death by two brothers, Philip Howard Murdock and John Thomas Murdock.
Mr. Billy was an Army veteran of World War II, he was on the 12th Infantry 4th Division on Utah Beach on June 6, 1944; he received two Purple Hearts, three Bronze Stars and numerous other metals. He was a Dairy, Tobacco and Row Crop farmer; member of the Williams Chapel Church of Christ; he served on the Calloway County School Board for 12 years; the West Kentucky Rural Electric Board for 21 years; was an Elder at the Williams Chapel Church of Christ for 50 years.
He is survived by his wife Jean Adams Murdock of Murray, Kentucky; they were married February 23, 1946 in Penny, Kentucky; also survived by one daughter, Carolyn Murdock Bowen and husband Tony of Clarksville, Tennessee; two sons, Nelson Murdock and wife Audrey of Harold, Florida and James Ray Murdock and wife Debbie of Murray, Kentucky; one sister, Shirley Shackelford of Benton, Kentucky; one brother, Gerald Murdock and wife Martha of Kirksey, Kentucky; nine grandchildren, Melissa Johnson and husband Tim, Michael Manning and wife Gidget, Amanda Goodwin and husband Mike, Brian Murdock and wife Kathy, Dr. Brett Murdock, Kyle Murdock and wife Mandi, Nathan Musser and wife Halee, Lance Murdock and wife Deidra and Trent Murdock; twelve great grandchildren, Reghan Peeler, Ryan Johnson, Samuel Johnson, Tyler Johnson, Marcus Manning, Nicholas Manning, Makana Gifford, Aiden Goodwin, Kenzie Murdock, Luke Murdock, Isabelle Murdock and Cade Musser; one great great grandchild Karlee Peeler.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, July 19, 2016 at the Williams Chapel Church of Christ. David Williams and Chris Buford will officiate with burial to follow in the Salem Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home on Monday, July 18, 2016 as well as Tuesday, July 19, 2016 from 9:00 am till funeral hour at William Chapel Church of Christ.
