Mr. Billy "Dan" Stokes, 83, of New Johnsonville, Tennessee and Louisville, Kentucky formerly of Murray, Kentucky died Saturday, June 28, 2014 at the Three Rivers Hospital in Waverly, Tennessee.
Mr. Stokes was born in Calloway County Kentucky on April 15, 1931 to the late Haley Stokes and Lorell (Cathey) Stokes. Mr. Stokes was a retired truck driver, was of the Baptist faith and a member of the Kilwinning Masonic Lodge in Louisville, Kentucky.
In addition to his parents Mr. Stokes was preceded in death by two sisters, Latricia Travis and twin sister, Anne Fox.
Mr. Stokes is survived by his wife, Wilma G. Stokes of Louisville, Kentucky, to whom he married on January 1, 1951 in Corinth, Mississippi; two daughters, Rhonda Boyd of Billings, Montana and Kathy Marie Crum and husband Steve of St. John Virgin Island; one son, Dan Allen Stokes and wife Gail of Las Vegas, Nevada; one sister, Carolyn Draffenville of Paris, Tennessee; four grandchildren, Sherry McKinney, Daniel Crum, Lena Marie Crum and Derek Stokes; two great grandchildren; and his little dog and companion, "Sara".
A Masonic service will be held on Thursday, July 3, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Murray City Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 2, 2014 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
