Mr. Bobbie Dale Barnett, age 85, of Hardin, Kentucky, died Monday, November 12, 2018, at Lake Way Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Benton, Kentucky.
Mr. Barnett was born on November 7, 1933, in Marshall County, Kentucky to the late I.W. Barnett and Avice Barnett. He served in the Air Force and played basketball in the Air Force as well. Mr. Barnett graduated from Murray State University with a degree in Vocational Technical Education. He worked as a vocational teacher in Marshall County and was also a safety inspector for vocational schools in Western Kentucky. He served as Vice President of AFL-CIO of Kentucky and was an electrician for Union 816 where he later served on the Executive Board as President. From 1967 – 1974 he owned the Country Kitchen in Hardin, Kentucky. Mr. Barnett started the optimist club of Hardin in the 1970's, served on the Marshall County Refuge Board, was on the WK&T Board of Directors for 21 years, was a Staunch Democrat who served on the Marshall County Democratic Executive Committee, and was a Kentucky Colonel. He was also a member of the Hardin-Dexter Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by two brothers, Eugene Barnett and Earl Barnett.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Shelba Barnett of Hardin, Kentucky; one son, Terry Barnett and wife Lucinda of Cadiz, Kentucky; one daughter, Tonia Hainaut and husband Bill of Hardin, Kentucky; four grandchildren, Hannah Barnett, Nikita Hainaut, Jacob Hainaut, and Matthew Counts and wife Jamie; as well as two great-grandchildren, Marcus Counts and Amelia Counts.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Friday, November 16, 2018, at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home with John Dale officiating. Burial will follow in the Coldwater Church of Christ Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., on Thursday, November 15, 2018, at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home.
