Carl Thomas (Tom) Dowdy, 81, of Murray, Ky, died March 25, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving family and friends.
Tom was born December 17, 1932 in Calloway County to Carl Christopher Dowdy and Nora Tidwell Dowdy. A graduate of Murray Training School, he attended Murray State University then served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. As a sergeant with the 103 Battalion Army Corp of Engineers, Tom began a lifelong career as a surveyor and retired after having owned V.L. Associates Surveyors, LLC of Murray. He was a member of St. Leos Catholic Church, and The Knights of Columbus Men's Organization.
Preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Isaac Dowdy, one sister Betty Jo Dowdy and a daughter, Patricia Francine, he is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary Ann Dowdy; one daughter, Karen Lenore Dowdy and husband John Beadles of Murray; two sons, Thomas Alan (Tad) Dowdy and his wife Stephanie of Louisville; Jeffrey Dowdy and wife Jo Ellen of Columbia, SC; two sisters, Connie Faye Cooper of Moscow, KS, and Nancy Hayes of Independence, MO; four grandchildren, Alexander and Kadie Jo Dowdy of Columbia, SC; McKenzie and Grier Dowdy of Louisville, KY.
Visitation will be held Friday, March 28, 2014 from 5-9 p.m. at J.H. Churchill Funeral Home. A funeral mass will be held Saturday, March 29, 2014 at 11 a.m. at St. Leos Catholic Church, with Father Jason McClure officiating. Private burial will follow in the Sinking Springs Cemetery.
