Mr. Carl E. Oakley, age 85, of Murray, Kentucky died on Monday, April 10, 2017 at Lakeshore The Meadows in Nashville, Tennessee.
Mr. Oakley was born in Corbin, Kentucky to the late Farrie and Carmie (Castle) Oakley on December 15, 1931. Mr. Oakley had a football coaching span for 25 years with the last 10 years being at Murray State University. After his coaching career, Mr. Oakley later retired as a buyer for Dean Foods. Mr. Oakley was a member of the First United Methodist Church and was a United States Marine veteran.
In addition to his parents Mr. Oakley was preceded in death by his wife, Opal Francis "Tootie" Oakley, who died on December 13, 2016; three sisters, Vivian Haber, Lucille Lemons and Betty Cox; as well as one brother, Tyras Lane.
Mr. Oakley is survived by two daughters, Julie Dawn Manning and husband Michael of Cincinnati, Ohio and JoBeth Ann Branch and husband Richard of Fairview, Tennessee; one son, Jeff Oakley of Goodlettsville, Tennessee; seven grandchildren, Hunter and Tyler Branch, Jason, Jamie and Josh Manning and Hannah and Jack Henry Oakley; as well as four great grandchildren, Nolan Manning, Jackson Manning, Adam Manning and Bella Manning.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Stahler and Rev. David Allbritten officiating. Burial will follow in the Murray City Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 14, 2017 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home.
