Chad Lee Stewart

Dr. Chad Lee Stewart, Sr. went home to be with his Lord and Savior surrounded by his family on July 5, 2018 in Melbourne, Florida. He was born on March 28, 1931 in Jackson, Tennessee. He graduated from Murray High School and Murray State University. Chad received a master's degree from Indiana University and a doctorate degree from Florida State University.
After graduation, he started his academic career at Olivet College and Morehead State. He then embarked on a 30-year journey at Murray State University where he was a department chairman for 26 of those years. He was selected as Murray State's distinguished professor. He was a fellow in the Academy of sports medicine. He was president of his state association and received its highest honor award. He was class president of his sophomore, junior and senior class at Murray High. He is a member of Sigma Chi fraternity and was very active in organizing many alumni activities. He is a Navy veteran and served in the Korean War.
Chad loved athletics and competition. He is a member of the Murray high school football Hall of Fame and Murray State athletic Hall of Fame (as an administrator). An avid golfer, Chad was a proud member of the dog soldier golf group. He organized and participated in over 35 annual golf trips.
He is preceded in death by his mother Ryon Stewart, his father Roy Stewart and his sister Bobs Shroat. He is survived by his wife of 68 years Betty Stewart, his son Dr. C. Lee Stewart (Beth), two grandchildren Chad Lee Stewart III and Carlyn Liesel Stewart all of Melbourne, FL, two nieces Phyllis Mitchell of San Antonio, Texas and Cathy Mitchell-Roberts of Murray, Kentucky and a nephew Jerry Hopper of Mayfield, Kentucky.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 14, 2018 at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home. Entombment will follow in the Murray City Cemetery, with full military honors. Visitation will be held 12:00 p.m. till 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 14, 2018 at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home.
