Mr. Charles Kenneth Pangborn, age 89, of Murray, Kentucky, died, Thursday, December 27, 2012 at East Alabama Medical Center, in Opelika Alabama.
Mr. Pangborn was a quality control engineer and worked on the Apollo Space Program which put the first man on the moon. He was a supervisor at the Nevada Nuclear Test Site and was present for the first above ground nuclear test. He was a pilot and aviation instructor in WWII. Mr. Pangborn also flew in the Berlin Blockade and continued flying privately well into his 80's. He was a member of the Martin's Chapel United Methodist.
Mr. Pangborn is survived by his children, Steven Pangborn of Florida, Susan Rose of Alabama, B. Daniel Pangborn of New Mexico; as well as three grandchildren and four great- grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home with Rev. Gene Burkeen officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 2, 2013 prior to the memorial service from 10:00 a.m. until service hour at the funeral home.
