Crystal Fondaw Parks, 99, of Murray, Kentucky, died on July 11, 2017 at the Anna Mae Owen Residential Hospice House.
She was born October 22, 1917 in Bandana, Kentucky, of Ballard County, to the late Basil George Fondaw and late Bertie Colvin. Crystal married Carman Max Parks, Sr. on June 22, 1941 (60 years). They had one son Carman Max Parks, Jr. Mrs. Parks was a second-grade school teacher for 46 years in Ballard County, Hazel and Southwest Elementary. Mrs. Parks was a member at Glendale Road Church of Christ.
In addition to her parents, husband and son she was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Boyd of Phoenix and Martha Adams of Murray.
She is survived by one sister, Dorothy Phillips, IN, daughter-in-law, Carolyn Parks, three grandchildren: Michael Ray Parks, Rogers, Ark., Dustin Max Parks and wife, Erin, and Megan Ottway and husband Chase Ottway; three great-grandchildren: Dylan and Cameron Parks, and soon to arrive Clay Ottway, all of Murray.
She was recognized in 1986 as an Outstanding Educator by the Kentucky, Education Foundation, by Alice McDonald, Superintendent of Public Education. Mrs. Parks was also awarded Kentucky Colonel by Governor Steven Beshear on her 96th birthday in 2013.
Mrs. Parks was a former member of Alpha, Delta Kappa, R.H.O. Chapter of Murray, Oaks Country Club, and Murray's Delta Women's Club. Mrs. Parks was alumni of Murray State University where she received a Bachelor of Science (1953) and a Masters of Arts in Education (1958). She was a member of Farm Bureau, while also serving on the Board of Directors; a member of Kentucky Retired Teachers, both state and national and, a member of Glendale Road Church of Christ since January 1, 2001.
The funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, July 15, 2017 at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home with John Dale officiating and Conny Ottway accompanying with the violin. Burial will follow in South Pleasant Grove United Methodist Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 14, 2017 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home.
