Ms. Debra Sue Burgess

Ms. Debra Sue Burgess, age 70, of Murray, Kentucky, died Monday, October 9, 2023, at the Murray Calloway County Hospital.

          Ms. Burgess was born on January 19, 1953, in San Antonio, Texas to the late James Burgess and June Rose Burnett Burgess. She was a retired Spanish and French teacher at Murray High School and taught Spanish at Murray State University. Ms. Burgess received her master’s degree from North Texas State University and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Murray, Kentucky.

          In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Bell.  

          Survivors include her son, Zackary Burgess and wife Rebecca of Murray, Kentucky; two brothers, James Franklin Burgess and wife Jeray of Salt Lake City, Utah and Sam Burgess and wife Carol of Fairview, Tennessee; two grandchildren, Colton Burgess and Jackson Burgess both of Murray, Kentucky as well as her good friend, Judy Tidwell of Murray, Kentucky.

          A celebration of life will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, October 14, 2023, at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Rev. Brittany Sutherland officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m., Saturday, October 14, 2023, at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
