Don "Pops" Maupin

Mr. Don Allen "Pops" Maupin, age 71, of Murray, Kentucky died on Friday, July 07, 2017 at the Anna Mae Owen Residential Hospice House in Murray.

Mr. Maupin was born in Calloway County, Kentucky on December 17, 1945 to the late Jesse Cecil Maupin and Iola Mae (Shouse) Maupin. In addition to his parents Mr. Maupin was preceded in death by two daughters, Bonnie Mae Maupin, who died in 1996 and Holly Maupin who died 1998; as well as a nephew, Anthony Dion Maupin who died in 1961.

Mr. Maupin was a veteran and served his country in the U.S. Army, while spending time in Korea. He graduated from Murray College High School and attended Murray State for two years. Mr. Maupin was a retired union brick mason from the local #4, a member of the Murray Masonic Lodge, #105 F. & A. M. and was a Kentucky Colonel. Mr. Maupin was baptized in the Kentucky Lake and was a member of the Blood River Baptist Church in New Concord, Kentucky. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, as well as being a guide. He fished from Ontario, Canada to the Gulf, all over Kentucky and Barkley Lakes, farm ponds and creeks, never catching a fish he didn't like. He spent many days of fishing alongside his son and brother. He enjoyed hunting ducks, geese, deer, turkey and all small game and had several of his trophies mounted. He was a good sportsman and enjoyed everything about the outdoors and wildlife.

Mr. Maupin is survived by one son, Jesse Maupin and wife Molly McClanahan Maupin; grandson, Adam Maupin; granddaughter, Anna-Mae Maupin; one brother, Dave Maupin and wife Velva all of Murray, Kentucky; one sister, Phyllis J. Carson of Aurora, Kentucky; nephews, Ricky Carson of Puryear, Tennessee, Donald Carson of Aurora, Kentucky and Tim A. White of Benton, Kentucky; 10 cousins; and his loving, faithful and caregiving companion, Pam Ezell of Kirksey, Kentucky.

He will be missed by all, especially the ones that called him and knew him as "Pops".

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home with Bro. Randy Lowe officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Kirksey, Kentucky. Visitation will be held on Monday, July 10, 2017 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Active pallbearers will be Ricky Carson, Chris McClure, Mark Lovell, Jonathan Poe, Nick Teasley, Jeremy Darnell and Joe Ferguson. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dave Maupin, Mark Riggins, Harry Lutz and Michael Phillips.
