Douglas McArthur Mayes

Mr. Douglas McArthur Mayes age 71, of Murray, Ky., died Saturday, December 21, 2013 at his sister's home in Aurora, Ky.

Mr. Mayes was born January 14, 1942, in Rogersville, Tn., to the late John Harvey Mayes and Elizabeth Stapleton Chambers. He was a retired employee with Hostess Bakery in Chicago, Ill., a Navy Veteran, and was of the Pentecostal faith. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge, American Legion post 974, and the VFW.

Survivors include his wife Billie Lou Mayes of Murray, Ky., five sisters, Margaret Joyce and husband Virgil of Aurora, Ky., Shirley McLeod and husband David of Benton, Ky., Virginia Kirk and husband Golden of Fairdealing, Ky., Joann Donat of Aurora, Ky., and Linda Russell and husband Jim of Aurora, Ky., brother, Donnie Mayes of Rogersville, Tn., brother in law, A.C. Gilstrap and wife Robbie of Detroit, Ala., sister in law, Bobbie Sue Gilstrap of Murray, Ky., three nieces, Linda Ann Kocjancich of North Lake, Ill., Sandra A. Kassil of Yelm, WA., and Barbara J. Donat of Rockford, Ill., three nephews, William Robert Donat of Phoenix, Az., Richard Barker of Valparaiso, IN., and Ronnie Barker of Houston, TX.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Mayes is preceded in death by one sister, Helen Gardner.

Funeral services for Mr. Mayes will be held on 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 24, 2013 at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home with Bro. Carl Butler officiating, burial will follow with military honors in the Murray City Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Monday, December 23, 2013 from 5-8 pm at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home.
