Dr. Paul Lyons, age 95, of Murray, Kentucky, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at the Murray-Calloway County Hospital after a brief illness. Paul was born June 17, 1928, in Detroit, Michigan to the late Paul and Nina Rickard Lyons. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Donald Wayne Lyons.
He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Betty Farmer Lyons, and his children, Gail Eveland and husband Barry of Madisonville, Kentucky, Paula Price and husband Roger of Winchester, Virginia, David Lyons and wife Georgann of Marietta, Georgia and Robert Lyons and wife Mary Beth of Murray, Kentucky; sister, Nancy Ann Abernathy of Kettering, Ohio; brother, Richard Allen Lyons of Lebanon, Indiana; 11 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
Paul strived to be an ambassador for Jesus Christ. He was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Murray, where he was part of many ministries over the years. He enjoyed scripture study and was always prepared to share his witness. He proclaimed the truth of Jesus Christ to many over the years, even if only through the way he lived his life.
He grew up in Nebo, Kentucky, and earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Murray State University. He taught industrial arts at Murray High School for several years before taking a position at Murray State University. He earned his PhD in Curriculum and Instruction from Southern Illinois University and was actively involved in the development of training programs in a variety of industries. After his retirement from Murray State University, Paul founded Industrial Training Services.
Paul truly enjoyed having a project underway. He was an accomplished woodworker and he enjoyed time in his shop turning pens, building furniture, or planning his next big project.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at the First Baptist Church in Murray, Kentucky, Paul Wells will officiate, and entombment will follow in the Murray City Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 25, 2023, from 11a.m. till 2p.m., at the First Baptist Church.
