Mr. Edmund David Fenton, age 92, of Murray, Kentucky died on June 12, 2018 at the Murray Calloway County Hospital.
He was born on April 11, 1926 in Salisbury, North Carolina to the late Harry J. Fenton and Harriet Butler. Mr. Fenton was a former Choir Director at St. Leo's Catholic Church, past president of the Murray Jaycees, past Vice-President of the Kentucky State Jaycees, former acting postmaster of Murray, Kentucky from 1960-1962; he also taught Red Cross Swimming and water safety to Navy Cadets and local classes, was a Ham Radio Operator, A World War II veteran, assisted in the operations of the former Murray Hosiery Mill, and owner of Fenton Firestone Store in Murray. He was also a member of the St. Leo Catholic Church.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by step Mother, Anne Dudley; two sons, James Nelson Fenton of Post Falls, Idaho and Harry Joseph Fenton of Murray, Kentucky; two grandsons, Kristofer Heacox and Jesse Brooks; two brothers, Thomas Fenton and Harry Fenton; and two sisters, Etta Long and Claire Resig.
Survivors include three daughters, Frances Haug and husband Matthew of Bonne Terre, Missouri; Rebecca Heacox and husband Mick of Spokane, Washington; and Kathleen Kostelec and husband Bill of Spokane, Washington; one son, Edmund Fenton, Jr. of Lexington, Kentucky; one sister, Anne Seyer and husband Bob of St. Louis, Missouri; also surviving are twelve grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; also numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Fenton was especially proud that in the late 1930's and early 1940's, their home hosted the first Catholic Masses in Murray leading to the formation of St. Leo's Catholic Church.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at the St. Leo Catholic Church with Father Brandon Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the Murray City Cemetery. Visitation will be held on June 16, 2018 from 9-11 a.m. at the St. Leo Catholic Church.
