Edna G. Vance

 Mrs. Edna Vance, age 94, of Murray, Kentucky, transitioned peacefully from this life to the life she longed for on Friday, May 24, 2024, surrounded by a loving family.

Edna, affectionately known as Mom or Granny, was born on December 13, 1929, to the late Stanton and Melissa Hooks in Golden Pond, Kentucky. Edna might be remembered as an employee at Scott’s Drugstore or Behr’s Clothing store and was a faithful member of the Scott’s Grove Baptist Church.

Edna was a treasure to everyone who knew her; bringing joy, encouragement, laughter, and a stunning smile everywhere she went. She was a proud mother of three and adored her growing family of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James “Jimmy” Vance; five sisters, Lilian Prescott, Etta White, Gail Workman, Velva Maupin, and Marie Outland; two brothers, Kelsie Hooks and James Mason Hooks.

Survivors include one daughter, Leah Evans and husband Garry of Almo, Kentucky; two sons, Jan Vance and wife Debbie of Murray and Jamie Vance and wife Traycee of Murray; seven grandchildren, Kelita Phelps and husband Eddie, Jonathan Vance, Tara Vincent and husband Stacy, Keela Smith and husband Andrew, Ryan Thurmond, Jessica Vance, and Dylan Vance and wife Olivia; as well as nine great grandchildren.

A funeral service for Edna will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Burial will follow in the Scotts Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
