Eleanor Oury Gatlin Diuguid, born in Murray, KY, on January 10, 1919, died on April 28, 2013 in Nashville, TN. She was the daughter of George Oury Gatlin and Loula Jones Gatlin. She married Lt. James Edward Diuguid on September 26, 1945, at Swanstadt, the home of her aunt, Gray Gatlin Swann.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1978 and son, James Scott Diuguid, in 1972.
Mrs. Diuguid's early years were spent in Washington, D.C. and Corvallis, OR, but she returned to Murray for high school. She attended Stephens College in Columbia, MO, and graduated from Murray State College, where she was active in Campus Lights and other musical productions.
After several years in Memphis and East Tennessee, where Mr. Diuguid was with TVA, they returned to Murray. Mrs. Diuguid worked part time in the Agriculture Dept. at MSU, as well as at the First Methodist Church, where she was a member. She was active in Tucker Frost Circle until moving in 2008 to be near her daughters.
Survivors are Jeanie Gray Diuguid McKee, and husband, Dr. David McKee, of Nashville, and Nancy Ellen Diuguid Stanford, and husband, George Richard Stanford, Jr., of Murfreesboro, TN. Grandchildren are Matthew Gatlin McKee; Amanda Gray McKee Bennett and husband, Scott; Katherine Scott McKee Hutcheson and husband, Cory; Amy Virginia Stanford Sias and husband, Chris; Laura Diuguid Stanford McDade and husband, Brent; George Richard (Tripp) Stanford III, and James Scott Stanford. Great grandchildren are Samuel James Bennett, Levi Gatlin Bennett, John Graham Thomas Hutcheson, Charlotte Scott Hutcheson, Gunner Richard Sias, and Wesley Gatlin McDade.
Visitation will be at JH Churchill Funeral Home on Thursday, May 2, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 3, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Steve Kroehler of First Methodist Church in Murray officiating. Burial will follow in the Murray City Cemetery.
