Mrs. Ella Mae Quertermous, 92, Wells Boulevard, Murray, died Sunday, November 7, 2010, at her home.
Mrs. Quertermous, who was born July 17, 1918, in Golden Pond to the late Etta Birdsong and Euen Newton, married Dr. John C. Quertermous on Aug. 11, 1940. A 1940 graduate of Murray State University, Mrs. Quertermous was a teacher in Golden Pond and Maysville before the family’s move to Murray.
She was a member of the First Christian Church, Kentucky P.E.O. Chapter M, and the Zeta Department of the Murray Woman's Club.
Mrs. Quertermous was preceded in death by her husband, John C. Quertermous, and her sister, Frances Newton Bilbrey.
She is survived by a son, John R. Quertermous, and his wife, Ann Kelly; a daughter, Ellen Newton Quertermous, and her husband, Don Greer of Nashville; three grandchildren, Sarah Elizabeth Quertermous of Nashville, James Lassiter Quertermous of Louisville, and John Shuler Quertermous of Sydney, Australia; a brother-in-law, J. Luke Quertermous of Princeton; one niece, Maxine Bennett Goebel of Owensboro; three nephews, Morris Newton Bilbrey of Round Rock, Texas, Skipper Bennett of Castle Rock, Colo., and John Bennett of Riverside, Calif.; and her caregivers, Ernestine Hendricks, Anne Jones Spurling and Elsie Renfroe.
Visitation will be at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 10, 2010. Pastor Ruth Ragovin will officiate at the 1:00 p.m. graveside service at the Murray City Cemetery, where interment will follow.
