Mr. Eugene S. Chaney, age 91, of Murray, Kentucky, died Thursday, June 5, 2014 at Emeritus of Paducah in Paducah, Kentucky.
Mr. Chaney was born in Calloway County Kentucky on May 5, 1923 to the late Euris D. Chaney and Lela (Skinner) Chaney. Mr. Chaney taught agriculture for 30 years before retiring, and was a life-long farmer. He was a member of the Elm Grove Baptist Church and its Adult Men's Sunday School Class. Mr. Chaney was also a member of the Kentucky Teacher Retirement System, served as a Director of the West Kentucky Rural Electric Cooperative for 23 years, was a Kentucky Colonel, and was an Army Air Corp. WWII Veteran.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Chaney was preceded in death by two brothers; James H. Chaney and William Cortel Chaney; an infant sister, Pernecia Chaney; a son-in-law, Tommy Vance; and a grandson, Robert Vance.
Mr. Chaney is survived by his wife Dorothy S. Chaney of Murray, to whom he was married on December 27, 1947 in Corinth, Mississippi; four daughters, Rita Cardenas and husband Jorge, MD of Paducah, Kentucky, Rebecca Vance of Murray, Kentucky, Anita Harper and husband Thomas Marty Harper of Murray, Kentucky, and Lisa Lasher, MD and husband Blaine of Paducah, Kentucky; one son, Glen S. Chaney, MD and wife Sally, MD of Paducah, Kentucky; three sisters- in- laws, Sue Chaney, Pearl Chaney, and Susie Chaney all of Murray, Kentucky; one brother, Charles H. Chaney, Ph.D. of Murray, Kentucky; eight grandchildren, Melissa V. Spiceland and husband Jason, John A. Vance and wife Megan, and Daniel Harper all of Murray, Kentucky; Laura Gail Kellie, MD and husband Scott, MD and John H. Chaney, MD all of Louisville, Kentucky; Anne C. Lasher of Paducah, Kentucky; Adriana Terry and husband Jason of Tampa, Florida, and Jorge Cardenas, Jr. of Bowling Green, Kentucky; as well six great -grandchildren, Madison, Molly ,and Thomas Robert Vance all of Murray, Kentucky; Ann Elizabeth and Emma Gail Kellie both of Louisville, Kentucky; and Ava Joy Terry of Tampa, Florida.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, June 8, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. at the J.H, Churchill Funeral Home with Brother Brad Burns officiating. Burial will follow at the Elm Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2014 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
