Frederick Wells Shepard 81, of Murray, Kentucky died Tuesday June 19, 2018 at the Oakview Nursing and Rehab Center of Calvert City, Kentucky. He was born April 30, 1937 in Buffalo, New York to the late Herbert P. Shepard and Elizabeth Shepard. He and his wife Linda were married in Detroit, Michigan on August 25,1962. They lived in Lansing, Michigan while he completed his Master of Fine Arts degree at Michigan State University. Upon completion Fred and Linda moved to Murray, Kentucky the fall of 1963 where he began a long and distinguished career at Murray State University as a ceramics and drawing Professor of Fine Arts.
He participated in over 80 solo and group exhibitions. Most notable: Mr. Shepard was one of two Ceramic artists chosen to represent the United States in The International Ceramic Symposium in Bassano Del Grappa in Italy. His works reside in 10 permanent collections locally and internationally. He was most recently chosen to be 1 of the 21 artists in the Kentucky Craft Luminaries exhibition in Lexington Kentucky.
Mr. Shepard is survived and loved by his wife Linda and two daughters Katie Melvin and husband Clint of Franklin, Tn. Gretta L. Pote and husband Michael and grandson Devin Pote all of Carmel In. One brother Bert Shepard and nephew Tyler Shepard of Middletown, Oh. One sister Tootie Hagan of Franklin, Tn.
At the request of the deceased, there will be no funeral service or visitation. A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.
Fred, a beautiful father, an extremely proud "Papa" and loving husband for 55 years, a master story-teller, an amazing artist and a passionate cyclist.
