George Robert Hesselrode

Mr. George Robert "Pops" / "Iceman" Hesselrode, age 99, of Murray, Kentucky, died Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at his home.

Mr. Hesselrode was born in Pine Bluff, Arkansas on January 2, 1917 to the late Charles Edward Hesselrode and Armenta (Funderburke) Hesselrode. Mr. Hesselrode before retiring was the owner and operator of Public Ice Service in Murray, Kentucky. He was a member of the Glendale Road Church of Christ.

In addition to his parents Mr. Hesselrode was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruby (Perry) Hesselrode; one son, Charles Eddie Hesselrode; one grandson, Charles Hesslerode; one sister, Rosie Matchett; and by three brothers, Cecil Hesselrode, Clarence Hesselrode and Homer Hesselrode.

Mr. Hesselrode is survived by his wife Margaret (Hester) Hesselrode of Murray, Kentucky, to whom he married in June of 1997; two sons, Ronald Hesselrode and wife Pat of Murray, Kentucky and Lynn Hesselrode and wife Lorrie of Cairo, Illinois; one brother, Benny Hesselrode of Sikeston, Missouri; one daughter-in-law, Mary Hesselrode of Jackson, Tennessee; four grandchildren, Ronda Bass and husband Brian of Birmingham, Alabama, Gregory Hesselrode and wife Michelle of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, Tracy Hesselrode of Georgia and Lyndon Hutchanson of East Prairie, Missouri; three step grandchildren, Tobie Johnson of Murray ,Kentucky, Scott Mays and wife Dawn of Murray, Kentucky and Sean Pecord and wife Sherry of Miller City ,Illinois; five great grandchildren; seven step great grandchildren; two step great-great grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home with John Dale officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Visitation will be held prior to the funeral service on Saturday, April 23, 2016 from 10:00 a.m. until funeral hour (2:00 p.m.) at the funeral home.
