Gerald Lee Carter, 76, Murray, KY, died on Sunday, January 27, 2019 in the Good Samaritan Hospital in Lexington, KY.
He served in the U. S. Army National Guard. Gerald attended Asbury College in Wilmore, KY before
going on to graduate from Murray State University with a B.S. and Master's Degree in Science. He taught
Physics, Industrial Arts and Biology at Carlisle County High School and at Murray High School. Having a dark
room for the school yearbooks in his class room sparked an interest in photography. He became a
professional photographer for twenty-five years. Gerald retired when his wife retired from teaching. He then
became an HVAC Master, Master Electrician and Electrical Contractor. Through-out his careers he also owned and managed Carter Rental Properties.
Gerald is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary Ann Crawford Carter, his son, Phillip Lee Carter (Tina) of Murray and daughter Leighann Carter Beard, M.D. (Harold) of Lexington, KY, grandchildren Hunter Lee Carter, William O'Neal Carter, Jillian Marie Scalf, Caleb Lee Scalf and Nathan Daniel Scalf.
Gerald was the son of the late Rev. Ercel Lee and Irene Carter. He was born on March 29, 1942 in Springfield, MO.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2019, from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., at the J. H Churchill Funeral Home in Murray, KY, with the funeral service taking place on Sunday, February 3, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Boyd Smith will officiate, and burial will be in the Murray City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be son, Phillip Carter, son-in-law Harold Beard, grandsons Hunter Carter and Will Carter, Brian Daughaday, and Chris Drew. Honorary Pallbearers will be grandsons Caleb Scalf and Nathan Scalf, Flenoy Barrow, and the men of the Harmony Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church, Murray, KY: teacher Win Rose, Glen Grogan, Gary Jones, Randall Underhill and Randy Barnett.
