Glenn W. Farthing, 85, of Murray, KY, died peacefully at home with family, on June 30, 2018. Visitation will be at J. H. Churchill Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 3rd, at 9:00am with funeral at 11:00am. Burial immediately following at Memorial Gardens.
He was born March 4, 1933, in Sturgis, KY, to Seldon T. Farthing and Mary Wallace Farthing. Glenn worked on his family farm at an early age and achieved his goal of a degree in Agriculture at Murray State University where he was later in ROTC stationed at Fort Benning, GA. He married his "auburn haired girl," Patti Mae Hill, on February 12, 1958 in Murray, KY. They made their first home in St Louis, MO, and lived in Montana, Michigan, Indiana, Georgia and St Louis 30 years before moving to Murray. Glenn traveled to all 50 states, South America, and Canada with appraisal jobs and trips with Patti. Besides loving to travel with children and grandchildren, Glenn enjoyed working as a deacon over the Joy Bus Ministry, Bible School, youth activities over the years for children. He portrayed Bible characters for VBS, hosted many cook outs and devotionals for youth groups. In Murray, he and Patti were Care Team leaders and hosted activities at their home for members and childhood friends. After retirement, Glenn enjoyed his tractor and farm management. He helped his son build a treehouse for Patti and visiting grandchildren to enjoy.
In addition to his parents, Glenn is preceded in death by his brothers Robert and Brownie Farthing and sister Judy Farthing.
Glenn is survived by his wife, Patti Hill Farthing, daughter, Deana Farthing Ward and husband Jim of Poplar Bluff, Mo, and son, Kent W. Farthing and wife Sandra of Murray, Ky. Grandchildren include: Kevin Glenn Ward of Oklahoma City, OK, Julia Ward Dell of Little Rock, AR, Dean Lassiter Farthing of Lexington, KY, Miranda Lynn Farthing of Searcy, AR., and Bella Ward of Poplar Bluff, Mo.
