Harry Eugene Hinze

Harry Eugene "Gene" Hinze, age 90, of Hazel, Kentucky passed away early on the morning of June 15, 2015 after a long courageous battle with Parkinson's disease. He was surrounded by his wife, daughters, granddaughters, and faithful caregiver as he peacefully took his last breath.

Gene was born on September 11, 1924, in Parma, Missouri. He was married to his beloved wife, Sue Underwood, on December 21, 1946 and they were blessed with three daughters, Carol Shepherd (Roger) of Apopka, Florida; Debbie Perry (Ron) of Alexandria, Louisiana; and Lori Diehl of Murray, Kentucky; and one son, Stephen Hinze who preceded him in death in May, of 2014. Gene was also preceded in death by one son- in- law, David Diehl, in June of 2008.

Gene is survived by his wife, three daughters, 10 grandchildren, and 16 great grandchildren.

Gene served in World War II and was injured in the last year of the war. He spent a year recovering in Fitzsimmons Army Hospital after which he returned home to southeast Missouri where he resumed his career as a masonry craftsman by owning and operating Hinze Masonry Construction Company in Dexter, Missouri.

Gene pursued his passion for music and his rich faith in God by spending many years involved in church music ministry and becoming an ordained elder in the Church of the Nazarene. After retirement Gene and Sue moved to Hazel, Kentucky and were members of Mason's Chapel United Methodist Church where Gene served as music leader until ill health forced him to relinquish the position. Gene will be remembered for his love for God and his love for his family.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 20, 2015 at the Masons Chapel United Methodist Church Pavilion with burial to follow at the Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held prior to the funeral from 2:00 p.m. until funeral hour at the Masons Chapel United Methodist Church Pavilion on Saturday, June 20, 2015. The J.H. Churchill Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to Florida Counseling Foundation, for the Brooke Fox Medical Fund, 258 Wilshire Blvd., Casselberry, Florida 32707
