Mr. Homer C. Burkeen age 98, of the Palestine community, died Saturday, February 02, 2013 at the Murray Calloway Co. Hospital.
Mr. Burkeen was born January 13, 1915 in Calloway Co., Ky., to the late Chester Arthur and Alma Miller Burkeen. He was retired from the Murray Division of Tappan, was a Navy Veteran of WWII, and a member of the Palestine United Methodist Church, and also a member of the Adult Sunday school class, and was a 60+ year member of the Alford 925 Masonic Lodge. He was also a very avid fox hunter.
Survivors include one son, Jimmie Burkeen and wife Pat of Murray, Ky., one sister, Dortha Mae Lovett and husband Grover of Murray, two grandchildren, Ronnie Burkeen and wife Lisa of Almo, Ky., and LaVonda Russell of Murray, also five great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren.
In addition to being preceded in death by his parents, also his wife, Ela Byers Burkeen.
Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home, Rev. Robert McKinney will officiate, and burial will follow in the Palestine United Methodist Church cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday, February 4, 2013 from 5-9 p.m. at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home.
