Ichmel "Newell" Hopkins

Mr. Ichmel "Newell" Hopkins, age 89, of Murray, Kentucky, died on Monday, November 4, 2019 at the Murray-Calloway County Hospital.
Mr. Hopkins was born in Calloway County, Kentucky on May 23, 1930 to the late Andrew Carl Hopkins and Eva Lee (Turner) Hopkins. Mr. Hopkins worked at Tappan Manufacturing in Murray and later retired from Murray State University. He was a member of the Glendale Road Church of Christ.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Hopkins was preceded in death by one son, Jimmy David Hopkins; three sisters, Daisy Darnell, Eva Lamb, and Treva Sykes; two brothers, Buel Hopkins, and Edison Hopkins.
Mr. Hopkins is survived by his wife, Gracie Hopkins of Murray, Kentucky, to whom he married on October 9, 1948; two sons, Newell Wayne Hopkins and wife Cynthia of Paducah, Kentucky, and Roger Phillip Hopkins and wife Leisa of Murray, Kentucky; as well as three grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 8, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home with John Dale, Steven Hunter, and Rev. Sammy Cunningham officiating. Burial will follow in the Murray City Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 7, 2019 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home.
