Mr. J.D. Rayburn, age 100 of Murray, Kentucky, died Thursday, November 08, 2012 at his home.
Mr. Rayburn was born August 5, 1912 in Wheatcroft, Kentucky, to the late Allen and Della Mabry Rayburn. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife Inez Johnson Rayburn, three sisters, Lorene Rayburn Brown, Alma Rayburn, Jewell Rayburn Creighton and two brothers, William H. Rayburn and Claude S. Rayburn.
He was a retired Professor at Murray State University after 12 years of service; he also taught and coached at Wheatcroft, Kentucky, and Clay, Kentucky; he was a former Superintendent of Schools in Providence, Kentucky; he received his Bachelor degree from Murray State University, and his Master degree from Peabody and Vanderbilt University; he was an Army Veteran of WWII, and a member and former Deacon of the First Baptist Church; he was a member of the Masonic Grand Lodge of Kentucky F&AM as well as Lodge #739; he was a former member of the Kiwanis Club and was past President and past Lieutenant Governor of division I being a member for over 38 years, 33 of which he had perfect attendance; he was a former football and basketball coach at Murray State University for 4 years; he was inducted into the OVC Hall of Fame Athletes Golden Horseshoe; he was also a member of the Retired Teacher Association.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Lou Hutchinson Bell Rayburn of Murray, Kentucky; one son, J.D. Rayburn II and wife Rebecca Humphreys Rayburn of Tallahassee, Florida; one step-daughter, Claire L. Bell and her husband J. Santiago Núñez of Atlanta Georgia; one step-son, George W. Bell of Clinton, Kentucky; one sister, Wilma Rayburn Krabill of Key West Florida; one brother, James Allen Rayburn of Sturgis, Kentucky; three grandchildren, Jane Inez Rayburn, Anna Kathryn Rayburn and Samuel Witt Bell.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, November 10, 2012 in the chapel of the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home. Rev. Jim Stahler and Sid Easley will officiate. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 pm on Sunday, November 11, 2012 in the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Cemetery in Clay, Kentucky. Visitation will be held from 5:00-8:00 pm on Friday, November 9, 2012 at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home.
