Mr. James "Jar" Stephens Mahan, age 65, of Hazel, Kentucky, died Wednesday, November 08, 2017 at his home.
Mr. Mahan was born in Murray, Kentucky on February 8, 1952 to the late J.R. Mahan and Dot (Stephens) Mahan. Mr. Mahan retired from the City of Murray's Water Department after 28 years of service. He was a member of the Good Shepherd United Methodist Church and was a veteran of the Army National Guard. Mr. Mahan was an avid hunter, fisherman, gardener and enjoyed hanging out at his shop and cooking for his family and friends.
Mr. Mahan is survived by his wife, Joanne Mahan of Hazel, Kentucky, to whom he married on July 24, 1970 at the South Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church; two daughters, Tammy McDaniel and husband Jamey of Murray, Kentucky and Emily Miller and husband Alan of Benton, Kentucky; one sister, Pam Young of Murray, Kentucky; one brother, John Mahan and wife Vickie of Murray, Kentucky; as well as four grandchildren, Katie Miller, Brady Miller, Laken McDaniel and James Cuyler McDaniel.
A graveside service will be held on Sunday, November 12, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the South Pleasant Grove Cemetery with Bro. Alan Miller and Bro. Tim Escue officiating. Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2017 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home. There will also be a visitation prior to the graveside service from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 12, 2017 at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home.
