Mr. James Edward Poole, of Enterprise, AL, passed away at the Enterprise Health & Rehabilitation Center on November 14, 2011. Graveside services with Military Honors will be held in Murray, KY on November 19, 2011 at the Hicks Cemetery. Visitation will be held prior to the graveside service from 9:00 a.m. - 11:-00 a.m. at the J .H. Churchill Funeral Home. Mr. Poole was born in Claremore, OK on April 29, 1934 to Albert and Marell Poole and grew up in Calloway County, Kentucky. He joined the Army in 1953 and retired in 1975 as a Sergeant Major. His overseas assignments took him to Germany, South Korea, and he served two years in Viet Nam. In 1976, he started a second career in the Mental Health field and retired in 1996 from the South Central AL Mental Health System where he was a counselor and director of the Coffee County Clinic in Enterprise, AL.
Mr. Poole held a BS and MS degree from Troy University, completed his classroom work for an Ed.D. at Auburn University and held a Ph.D. from Columbia Pacific University. He was an early member of The American Association of Christian Counselors and he held many positions of leadership in the various churches where he lived. A great joy for him was teaching teenagers and college and career classes in those churches.
Mr. Poole is survived by his wife, Ila Fay Poole, Enterprise, AL; daughters, Debra Poole of Knoxville, TN and Deleza Poole of Enterprise, AL; a son James Allen Poole and wife Sharon (Forister) of Columbus, GA; grandson Aaron Poole and granddaughter, Mallory Estes and husband Addison of Columbus, GA. In addition to his parents, Mr. Poole was preceded in death by a son-in-law Ray Pierce of Knoxville, TN and half brother Allen Poole and sister Jesse Fay Young of Murray.
