Mr. James A. Robinson, 89, of Murray, KY, died August 15, 2024, at the Murray-Calloway County Hospital. He was born December 18, 1934, to the late Herschel Robinson and Mary Helen Williams Robinson. Preceding him in death are brothers Edwin Robinson, Billy Robinson, Walter Robinson, Larry Robinson, and Lynn Robinson; sisters, Frances Gibson, Rosetta Gibson, Winona Williams, Mary Helen Turner, and Velara Olmstead.
James served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Essex aircraft carrier from 1954-1958. He retired in 1991 from General Motors Truck and Bus, Indianapolis, IN. He was an ordained deacon at Marwood Baptist Church, Indianapolis, IN. After retirement, James moved back to his hometown of Murray, KY. He attended Hardin Baptist Church and was a member of Flint Missionary Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Anna Hopkins Robinson; two daughters, Teresa Purichia (David), Glasgow, KY, Leanne Yates (Darren), Murray, KY; four grandchildren, Maria Purichia Barr (Jason), Bowling Green, KY, Jeremy Purichia (Candice), Freeport, FL, Nathan Jones (Kelly), Almo, KY, and Whitney Davis (Brent), Bowling Green, KY; Great grandchildren, Logan Purichia, Lexi Purichia, Cooper Barr (Hannah), Lyla Barr, Alexandria Barr, Marina Barr, Jaden Barr, Ian Jones, Anna Kate Jones, Cooper Davis and Shiloh Davis; Great great grandson, Waylon Barr; also surviving are two sisters, Wanda Jones and Dortha Hansen.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, August 19, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Bro. David Purichia and Bro. Ricky Cunnigham officiating. Burial with full military honors provided by the VFW Post #6291 will follow at the Murray Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held prior to the funeral service on Monday, August 19, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
