Mr. James "Jimmy" Vance, age 90, of Almo, Kentucky died Monday, February 29, 2016 in Madisonville, Kentucky.
Mr. Vance was born in Calloway County, Kentucky to the late Clancey Vance and Allie (Williams) Vance on August 24, 1925. Mr. Vance retired from Tappan Manufacturing Company. He was an active member of the Scotts Grove Baptist Church where he was currently the oldest member. He taught Sunday School and was Superintendent. Mr. Vance was an Army veteran, enlisting at the age of 17. By the age of 18, he was already fighting for our country in Germany and Europe. He was in WWII from 1943 -1945, serving in the Patton 3rd Army Division and during this time was a soldier in the Battle of the Bulge. After being honorably discharged, Mr. Vance reenlisted and served from 1945 – 1947 with the Military Police. Mr. Vance was an avid bird hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed training bird dogs for most of his life. He was the High-9 card trainer for all his kids and grandkids and at family gatherings was always involved in a competitive card game.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Vance was preceded in death by four sisters, Beatrice Kiffin, Beaton Underwood, Robbie Sykes and Wanda Coy; three brothers, Troy Vance, Coffield Vance and Edwin Vance.
Mr. Vance is survived by his wife of 63 years Edna Vance, to whom he married on July 18, 1952 in Murray, Kentucky; one daughter, Leah Evans and husband Garry of Almo, Kentucky; two sons, Jan Vance and wife Debbie of Murray, Kentucky and Jamie Vance and wife Traycee of Murray, Kentucky; one sister, Francis Paschall of Murray, Kentucky; seven grandchildren, Kelita Dunn and husband Barry, Jonathan Vance and wife Candy, Tara Vincent and husband Stacy, Keela Smith and husband Andrew, Jessica Vance, Dylan Vance and Ryan Thurman; as well as five great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 3, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home with Garry Evans, Bro. Wayne Carter and Bro. John Denham officiating. Burial will follow in the Scotts Grove Cemetery with military rites. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 2, 2016 from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
