Mr. James Martin Wells, 82, of Summerville, SC, Formerly of Murray, Ky. died, Saturday, March 10, at Roper Hospital, in Charleston, SC.
Mr. Wells was born in Calloway County on December 12, 1935, to the late Billy and Gertie Lee Wells. He was a member of the Glendale Road Church of Christ.
Mr. Wells retired with 26 years of service from the Murray Police Department, attaining the rank of Captain. He, then, worked 12 years as a Public Safety Officer, at Murray State University, attaining the rank of Sergeant.
Mr. Wells was a charter member of The Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 23, in Murray, and a 53-year-member of the Temple Hill Masonic Lodge.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Frank Wells, and two sisters, Bertha Tidwell and Dorothy Crouse.
Mr. Wells is survived by his wife of 59 years, Faye Clark Wells, and a son, Steve Wells and wife, Randi, along with two grandchildren, Jackson and Addison Wells, all of Summerville, South Carolina. Also surviving: a sister-in-law, Millie Elkins, of Murray; several nieces and nephews; and a son, Alan Wells, of Memphis, TN.
A masonic service will be held on Thursday, March 15, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home. Immediately following the masonic service, a funeral service will be held at the funeral home with John Dale and Garry Evans officiating. Entombment will follow in the Murray City Cemetery. Visitation will be held prior to the services on Thursday, March 15, 2018 from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home.
