Mr. JB Burkeen, 89, of Murray, Kentucky died on Friday, November 15, 2013 at the Murray Calloway County Hospital.
Mr. Burkeen was born in Calloway County, Kentucky on July 1, 1924 to the late Barness Burkeen and Ola Hopkins Burkeen. Mr. Burkeen worked at Tappan Manufacturing Company, Murray Division, for 34 years and later retired with Murray High School after serving 16 years as custodian. Mr. Burkeen was a member of the First Baptist Church and a member of the Baraca Sunday School class. He was also an Army Veteran of WWII.
In addition to his parents Mr. Burkeen was preceded in death by two brothers, Johnny and Barness Ray Burkeen.
Mr. Burkeen is survived by his wife, Jo Burkeen of Murray, to whom he married on July 27, 1946 in Hardin, Kentucky; one daughter, Patsy Black and husband Grant of Hardin, Kentucky; one son Dennis Burkeen and wife Rhonda of Aurora, Kentucky; four sisters, Mary Outland of Murray, Euple Lee and husband Bobby Joe of Almo, Kentucky, Pauline Crotzer of Jeffersontown, Kentucky and Ola Mae James of Nashville, Tennessee; one brother, Jackie Burkeen and wife Shirley of Murray; three grandchildren, James B. Burkeen and wife Catherine of Murray, Emily McGill and husband Justin of Hardin, Kentucky and Jennifer Linn of Murray; five great grandchildren, Eva Linn, Brody McGill, Mason Linn, Will Burkeen and Ellie Burkeen; as well as two brother in laws, Bobbie Workman of Columbus, Mississippi and John Murdock of Murray.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, November 18, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Murray Memorial Gardens with Rev. Boyd Smith officiating. Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 17, 2013 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home.
