Mr. J.D. Grogan, age 80, of Murray, Kentucky, died Sunday, May 17, 2015, at his home. His daughter, Jennifer, was at his bedside, and his two poodles, Jake and Kelly, were there with him along with his two cats and several of his long-time caregivers and friends.
Mr. Grogan was born May 30, 1934, in Almo, Kentucky to Newman I. Grogan and Ruby C. Roberts Grogan.
A devoted husband and father, he lived a life of service to others. He served in the United States Army from 1956 - 58, and he worked for the Tennessee Valley Authority until he was injured on the job in 1991.
Mr. Grogan enjoyed listening to music, particularly that of Marty Robbins and Patsy Cline. He loved watching Westerns and, if you would let him, smoking cigars. He cared deeply for animals, and he was a loving and faithful friend.
He is survived by one daughter, Jennifer Saalwaechter; son-in-law Ben Saalwaechter; and one grandson, Nicholas.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Treva Joy McKinney Grogan, to whom he married on April 10, 1955.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home on Friday, May 22, 2015. A memorial service will be held following visitation on Friday, May 22, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel of the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home.
