Jean Corn Cooper, 81, of Murray, Kentucky died Friday, November 29 at Spring Creek Health Care.
Jean was born August 29, 1932 in Murray to Herschel Clinton Corn and Lillian Karine (Farmer) Corn.
Jean was a 1950 graduate of Murray High School, a 1954 graduate of Murray State with a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics, and a 1957 graduate of the University of Illinois-Champaign/Urbana with a Master of Arts in Education.
Jean married William Willard Cooper on August 14, 1955 in Murray. They moved to Champaign, Illinois to complete graduate studies. Jean also taught at an area school while in Illinois.
In 1972, Bill and Jean moved to Atlanta, Georgia where they resided for over 30 years. Jean was very active at St. Luke's Episcopal Church working in the soup kitchen and visiting the elderly and shut-ins.
In 2003, after the death of Bill, Jean moved back to Murray. Here she spent the last ten years with lifelong friends and close family.
Jean was active in many groups including Sigma Sigma Sigma, the magazine club, PEO club and Murray Main Street. She was a lifetime member of the Murray State Alumni Association and active locally at St. John's Episcopal Church.
In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her husband William Willard Cooper. She is survived by cousins Phyllis Huggins of Murray, Dr. Clegg Austin and wife, Faye of Murray, Sue Farmer Costello of Murray, Janette Farmer Giles and husband, Hughes, of Dukedom and Fidelia Austin Risk and husband Paul of Muncie, Indiana
A celebration of Mrs. Cooper's life will be held Saturday, December 7 with visitation between 2-4 pm at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, gifts may be given to the Calloway County Humane Society or to Murray Calloway County Hospital Endowment for Healthcare-Residential Hospice House.
