Jean (Windsor) Coulter

April 8, 1940 — June 28, 2024

Holiday, Florida

Mae “Jean” Coulter (Windsor) 84 of Holiday, Florida, passed into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on June 28, 2024, surrounded by her caregivers, daughter Lisa and son Wes. Jean was born April 8, 1940, to Ira Sylvester Windsor and Neva Laverne Taylor at their home near Mayfield, Kentucky. Jean grew up with her brothers, Vester Lee and Jerry Wayne Windsor along with a large extended family. Jean had many fond memories of the time spent with her aunts, cousins, and friends.

Jean graduated from Sedalia High School where she met and married Allen Gore. Jean and Allen shared 20 years and three children before going their separate ways. They remained friends until Allen’s death in 2018. In 1996, Jean reconnected with her former neighbor, Thurman Coulter, and they married and lived in Memphis, TN. Jean and Thurman shared the love of flowers, gardening, and travel. They spent many hours working in their beautiful yard and enjoyed sharing the space with family and friends. Jean had a lifetime passion for history and was always ready for a road trip, often dragging her children and grandchildren all over the United States to see old houses, forts, cemeteries, waterfalls, caves, or gardens. Her Rand McNally's Road Atlas was dog-eared, highlighted, and well-worn from trips taken and planned. She and Thurman also traveled to exotic locations all over the world and always returned with wonderful memories and funny stories to share. Jean had family and friends from coast to coast and loved to visit them all during her travels.

After Thurman's death in 2013, Jean moved to Florida to escape the winters in Tennessee. She met the love of her life, Darrell Bargfrede, when he knocked on her door to meet his neighbor. Darrell and his “my Jeanie” became fast friends and were inseparable until his death in 2020. After caring for Darrell during his extended illness, Jean’s Parkinson’s disease worsened and limited her travel, but she was able to enjoy frequent visits from family and the beautiful lake view outside her home until her death.

Jean loved her family and will be greatly missed by her daughters, Cindy Newman (Alan) of Memphis, TN, Lisa Rhodes of Holiday, FL, and her son Wes Gore of Holiday, FL. She truly loved each of her four grandchildren, Michelle Martini (Ryan Hayes), Amanda Gutknecht (Joshua), Wesley Gore, and Sarah Gore and her eight great grandchildren, Lee, Daniel, and Eliza Hayes; Iva Ennis; and Madeline, Charlie, Abigail, and Amelia Gutknecht. Jean also leaves behind her sister-in-law, Joanne Windsor, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends that she loved spending time with.

Jean will be laid to rest on Friday, July 5, 2024, in Murray Kentucky following a graveside service. Family and friends are invited to gather at 12:00 p.m., at J.H. Churchill Funeral Home & Cremation Services to join the procession to Murray City Cemetery for a 1:00 p.m., graveside service with Bro. Sammy Cunningham officiating
