Mr. Jerry "Red" Overbey, age 74, of Murray, Kentucky, died Sunday, January 03, 2016 at Spring Creek Health Care in Murray.
Mr. Overbey was born in Paducah, Kentucky on April 7, 1941 to the late Alfred and Elsie (Camp) Overbey. Mr. Overbey was employed by Tappan Manufacturing Company as a guard for 17 years, was an insurance agent for Commonwealth Insurance Company for 12 years and later retired in 2008 from Murray State University with the Housing Department. Mr. Overbey graduated from Almo High School in 1960. He served on the Calloway County Board of Education from January 1979 until December 1986. Mr. Overbey was a member and Deacon at the Friendship Church of Christ. He was also actively involved in sports in the community while refereeing, umpiring and coaching.
In addition to his parents Mr. Overbey was preceded in death by one daughter, Renee Overbey; one brother, Robert "Bobby" Overbey; one half-brother, J.D. Calhoun; one nephew, David Davis; and one brother-in-law, Tommy Davis.
Mr. Overbey is survived by his wife, Judy (Elkins) Overbey of Murray, Kentucky, to whom he married on August 14, 1960 in Freemont, Kentucky; one daughter, Penny Wallace of Murray, Kentucky; one sister, Threessa Davis of Benton, Kentucky; two grandchildren, Brodie Wallace of Murray, Kentucky and Logan Wallace and wife Jessica of Murray, Kentucky; three great grandchildren, Sammy Wallace, Rylan Wallace and Cade Wallace; two nieces, Tracey Hooper of Murray, Kentucky and Tina Blevins of Calvert City, Kentucky; two nephews, Jason Grogan of Almo, Kentucky and Jeremy Grogan of Murray, Kentucky; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Steve and Deborah Grogan of Murray, Kentucky.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home with Ronnie Newberry, Joey Glisson and John Dale officiating. Burial will follow in the Friendship Church of Christ Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 5, 2016 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home.
