Jo Cathey

Mrs. Emily Jo Cathey, age 85, of Murray, Kentucky passed away on Saturday, May 27, 2017 at the Murray-Calloway County Hospital.

Mrs. Cathey was born January 17, 1932 in Ripley, Tennessee to the late James Richard Thornley and Emma Laura Calhoun Thornley. Mrs. Cathey was a retired School Teacher having taught in Symsonia, Lynn Grove, and 28 years in Garden City, Michigan as head of the Math Department. She was also a member of the First Baptist Church, and the Phoebian Sunday School Class.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother in law, Ab Davis; nephew, Joseph P. Bailey.

Survivors include her husband, JW Cathey of Murray, Kentucky, they married January 25, 1952, in Paducah, Kentucky; daughter, Phyllis Cathey McKenna and husband Dave of Murray, Kentucky; sister, Sally Davis of Newbern, Tennessee; grandson, John Connor McKenna of Murray, Kentucky; nieces, Laura Wright and husband Stephan of Newbern, Tennessee and Kathy Adams of Murray, Kentucky; nephews, Steve Davis and wife Amanda of Millington, Tennessee, and Larry Lockhart and wife Myra of Houston, Texas.

Funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m., Friday, June 2, 2017 at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home. John Dale and Rev. Boyd Smith will officiate, and burial will follow in the Old Salem Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday, June 1, 2017 from 5-8 p.m., at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home.
