Mrs. Jo Ann Harmon, 78, of Murray, Kentucky died Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at the Murray Calloway County Hospital.
Mrs. Harmon was born on July 3, 1935 in Murray, Kentucky to the late Beauron Henry Elkins and Johnie (Howlett) Elkins. Mrs. Harmon was a graduate of Murray High and Murray State University. After 25 years of service she retired as a Nutritionist with the Kentucky Health Department. She began her career teaching Home Economics at Kirksey High School. Mrs. Harmon attended the Glendale Road Church of Christ.
Mrs. Harmon is survived by her husband, James Lee Harmon of Murray, to whom she married on April 15, 1959 in Calloway County, Kentucky; one daughter, Leigh Harmon Downey and husband Mike of Madisonville, Kentucky; two sons, Kent Harmon and wife Dede of Van Alstyne, Texas and Joe Harmon and wife Tracy of Franklin, Tennessee; one brother, Larry Elkins and wife Janie of Murray; as well as five grandchildren, Tyler McCoart of Murray, Sarabeth Hughes of Van Alystyne, Texas, Emily Harmon, Clay Harmon and Allison Harmon all of Franklin, Tennessee.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 10, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home with John Dale officiating. Entombment will follow in the Murray City Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 9, 2014 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
