Mr. Joe R. Sims, 88 of Murray, Kentucky died on Friday, May 18, 2012 at his home.
Mr. Sims was born in Calloway County, Kentucky on December 21, 1923 to the late Van Sims and Bessie Cole Sims. Mr. Sims retired after 27 years of service from the Pennwalt Corporation in Calvert City, Kentucky as a chemical operator. Mr. Sims was a member of the First Baptist Church as well as a member of the Murray Masonic Lodge and a member of the Woodmen of the World. Mr. Sims was an Army veteran of WWII.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Sims was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma Jo Futrell Sims; and by two brothers, Jack and Bill Sims.
Mr. Sims is survived by two sons, Richard Sims and wife Jewelyn of Washington, D.C. and Rusty Sims and wife Lesa of Murray; one sister, Janace Sims of Murray; as well as three grandchildren; four step grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 21, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home with Rev. Brett Miles officiating. Burial to follow in the Murray Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 20, 2012 from 5:00 -8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
