John Ed Scott

Mr. John Ed Scott, 96, of Murray passed away Wednesday, November 4, 2015 at Spring Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Mr. Scott was born on December 17, 1918 to Gladys Owen Scott and G. B. Scott, Sr.

Mr. Scott was a retired Murray businessman and entrepreneur. He and cousin John Trotter co-founded the Del-Rose Ice Cream Company, co-owned the Scott Drug Company with partner and brother G. B. "Boo" Scott, owned Scott Christmas Tree Farms, and Scott Hallmark Shoppes. After retirement, Mr. Scott was employed by Dwain Taylor Chevrolet until the age of 89.

Mr. Scott was a World War II veteran serving in the US Army in European operations. He was a life-long member of the First United Methodist Church in Murray where he oversaw the Church's canteen operations for many years. He was a Murray High School graduate and attended Murray State University.

Mr. Scott was active in civic affairs having served as a former Mayor of Murray and numerous terms as a City Councilman and various civic committees. Mr. Scott was also the official weather observer for the National Weather Service for 49 years.

Mr. Scott is survived by daughter Rosemary Scott Graham and husband David of Murray; a son John E. Scott, Jr. of Memphis, TN; and granddaughter Allison Graham; nephews, George Scott and Bruce Scott also survive.

In addition to his parents Mr. Scott was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Audrey Oliver Scott, to whom he married on November 24, 1945; as well as a brother, G. B. Scott, Jr. and sister-in-law, Betty Scott.

Funeral services will be Saturday, November 7, 2015 at the J. H. Churchill Funeral Home in Murray at 2:00 p.m. The Rev. Jim Stahler will officiate. Burial will follow at the Murray City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, evening November 6, 2015 and Noon until the funeral hour on Saturday.

Memorial contributions may be given to the First United Methodist Church, 503 Maple Street, Murray, Kentucky 42071 in memory of John Ed Scott.
