Mitchell Stom, 87, of Murray, Kentucky, passed away on October 19, 2023, at MCCH. He was born October 28, 1935.
Mitchell is survived by his wife, Carolyn, his daughter and best friend, Sandra Stone and husband Kerry of Murray, grandson, Clint Stone and wife Tori of Murray, granddaughter Kailey Starks and husband Kyle of Almo, as well as six great-grandchildren, Briley, Bailee, and Brystol Stone and Sutton, Arthur, and Annie Starks. He is preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Mabel Stom as well as one brother, Donald Stom, and three sisters, Henrietta Camp, Leola Lafser and Earlene Thurman.
Mitchell was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He proudly served in the United States Marines, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to his country. Throughout his life, he forged many lasting friendships through his employment at the Tappan Stove Plant, Hutson Inc., and in his attempted retirement, he found joy in driving a bus for the Calloway County School System.
As a young man, Mitchell was well known for his patience and skill in working with quarter horses. He was a trainer, showman, and judge with the American Quarter Horse Association.
In his later years, Mitchell enjoyed spending time outdoors in his garden, woodworking, bluegrass music, and his beloved dog Gabe. He was a man of God, a servant to his family and strong in the Baptist faith.
Known for his captivating storytelling abilities and mischievous grin, his memory will live on through those who were blessed to know him.
A private military service was held at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West in Hopkinsville, KY. A celebration of life will be held Sunday, November 5, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m., at the Elm Grove Baptist Church in Murray, Kentucky.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Second Chance Rescue of Murray, 1262 Bakers Crossroad Drive, Hazel, Kentucky 42049.
