Joseph G. Chaney

Mr. Joseph G. Chaney Sr. of Murray, Kentucky, passed on December 4, 2016 at Spring Creek Health Care in Murray after a few weeks of exceptionally professional and compassionate care of its dedicated staff.

Born June 6, 1924, the son of the late William Lias Chaney and Kate Eva Rinehart Chaney, of Horse Cave, Kentucky.

His brother, William Kenneth Chaney, was killed in action in the south of France in the final days of World War II.

He was also preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Marie Burns Ford Chaney, their daughter, Charlotte Suzanne O'Farrell and his sisters, Mary Frances Burch and Paula Jean Sanders.

Mr. Chaney, a decorated veteran of World War II, served with the Naval Air Force in the Pacific Theater. A retired educator/engineer, coach and sports official, he enjoyed participating in civic, charitable and professional organizations. He was a member of Murray' First United Methodist Church and The Togetherness Sunday School Class.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret "Patsy" Chaney, a son, Dr. Joe G. Chaney Jr. and wife Lynda of Murray, grandchildren, Joe G. Chaney III and wife Julie of The Woodlands, Texas, Dr. Chanon Biceglia and husband Donato of Wallingford, Connecticut, Marisa Campbell of Tucson, Arizona, Ben Peterson of Chandler, Arizona, and Lindsay Kinard and husband Wayne of Tucson, Arizona and seventeen great-grandchildren. Surviving niece and nephews are Vicky Simpson, Lebanon, Tennessee, Col. Joseph Alan Chaney, Ret. USAF, Panama City Beach, Florida, Kenneth Burch, Lansing, Michigan and Randal Burch, Williamston, Michigan.

A celebration of Life service officiated by Rev. Jim Stahler and Dr. Rick Dye will be held in Hale Chapel of the Murray First United Methodist Church at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 10, 2016 with visitation prior to the service at 1:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 503 Maple Street, Murray, Kentucky 42071 or The American Heart Association or a Veterans Group.
