Joseph "Joe" Dick, 90, of Murray, KY died November 22, 2018. He was born on December 7, 1927 in Detroit, Michigan to Euin and Mary P. Dick.
He graduated from New Concord High School. At age 21, he graduated from Murray State University with a Bachelor of Science degree, despite taking 18 months leave to serve in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Joe began his career in banking with the Bank of Murray in 1955. In 1966, he accepted a position with Liberty Bank in Louisville, KY. He returned to The Bank of Murray in 1967 as President and Chief Executive Officer, and later, becoming Chairman of the Board. He served as Chairman of the Board of the Kentucky Bankers Association and was a member of the American Bankers Association. He attended Kentucky Banking School and a leadership banking program at the Harvard Business School.
Under his leadership, in 1988, The Bank of Murray was named "one of the 175 safest banks in the nation" by Money Magazine. In 1989, it was recognized as "one of the 100 safest banks" by that organization.
Joe was an organizing director, establishing the Leadership Murray Program, and in 1990, was part of the kick off campaign to raise funds for the Regional Special Events Center.
He has been the Murray Chamber of Commerce Man of the Year, The Murray Chapter National Secretary Association's Boss of the Year, a past president of the Murray-Calloway Industrial Foundation and Economic Development Corporation, The Chamber of Commerce, Murray Country Club, Murray Rotary Club, member of the Murray City Commission and a recipient of the Murray State Golden Horseshoe Award.
Joe was a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church, serving on various committees and the Board of Directors.
He is survived by his wife Linda Williams Dick, his sister Jean Pickard (Bob) of Brentwood, TN, his daughters, Leeanna Dick, Carol Dick, and Catherine Clark, all of Roswell, GA, one step-daughter, Shannon Wells (Kevin), and one step-son Scott Hagerman, all of Owensboro, KY, two granddaughters, Madison Clark and Caroline Clark, both of Roswell, GA,
two step-granddaughters, Krystin Wells and Morgan Wells, both of Owensboro, KY, and one step-grandson, Zachary Hagerman of Lexington, KY.
Visitation will be held on Monday, November 26, 2018 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the First United Methodist Church in Murray. The funeral service will immediately follow at 2:00 PM with the Reverend Jim Stahler and John Dale officiating. Entombment will follow in the Murray City Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be the Bank of Murray retirees.
